Breast Cancer Treatments Over The Years
american cancer society?

My mom is 50 years old and is fighting breast cancer. She’s unable to work due to the kemo treatments she is going through and is unable to find any organization that is willing to help her. She finally got medicaid, but it took 4 months. She now is struggling to keep her utilities on and her kemo doctor denied her the chance for disability. He insisted she reach out to family and churchs for asistance.I have looked all over the internet looking for something some where in her area ( Spartenburg S.C.) If anyone knows of anything please please please let me know, she’s begining to give up hope.

If she was working in the last couple years prior to her diagnosis then she should be covered by social security disability (if she lives in US and is US citizen). If this is true she should call Social Security and ask for an expedited claim.

If applying for SSDI she should also join the Yahoo group for SSDI issues at:

because applying for Social Security benefits is sometimes a very complicated process. To qualify she would have to expect to be disabled and unable to work for 12 months total or longer.
If her chemo Dr thinks she will recover then he might not support her applying for disability but he is not the final judge in this process, just a small part of many parts. Personally I have never seen a Dr who would not support a sick patient from obtaining disability since doing so would insure your mom’s medical bills being paid.

good luck to your mom
