Actual Cause of Breast Cancer…

Research is still on to find out what actually causes breast cancer, still there have been certain breakthrough in understanding of certain common factors which may lead to breast cancer, these are termed as Risk factors for Breast cancer. Risk factor is something which increases the chances of having breast cancer. Fortunately having one or many of the risk factors of breast cancer does not confirm that a woman will certainly develop breast cancer.

Impact of various risk factors also varies a lot with some having widespread impacts and enhancing overtime with the changes of other relevant factors like aging and life style .

The exact reason, which actually causes the changes in cells and eventually develop breast cancer is not yet known, some researchers also give hormones some weightage in the development of the disease.

Major risk factors of Breast Cancer:

3.  Genetics: 5% TO 10% of women who develop breast cancer have genetic inheritance; the mutation mainly occurs at BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Women with these gene changes have up to an 80% chance of getting breast cancer during their lifetimes.

4.Family history: Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease. Women whose mother or fathers have breast cancer have almost double chances of having breast cancer (It’s important to note that 70% to 80% of women who get breast cancer do not have a family history of this disease.)

5. Race: White women are slightly more likely to get breast cancer than African-American women.

6. Dense breast tissue: Women who have lesser fat content in the breasts and more breasts tissues have increased chances of breast cancer.

7. Menstrual periods: Women who began having periods early (before age 12) or who went through the change of life (menopause) after the age of 55 have a slightly increased risk of breast cancer.

8. Earlier breast radiation: Women who have had radiation treatment to the chest area earlier in life have a greatly increased risk of breast cancer. The risk varies with the patient’s age when they had radiation.
